Welcome to Class 4E
Our teacher is Miss Evenden. We are lucky enough to have Mrs Clarkson working with us if we find things hard and sometimes Mrs Brierly and Mrs Ismaeel work in our classroom with some of us too.
We have been working really hard so far to settle in and have had a busy couple of weeks!
Lessons this term ……..
In Summer term our topics are ‘Aboriginal art’, ‘The Romans’ and ‘At the seaside’.
In Art we will be examining Aboriginal art techniques and creating our own pieces of art work.
In History we will be looking at lives in the past and focussing on architecture, buildings and the Roman influence on modern life. During our Seaside topic, we will focus on developing our geographical skills and will be looking at the human and physical features of land.
During this unit we will also examine how coastal features change over time.
During English lessons, I will continue to build on my reading and writing skills. We will look at science fiction stories and non chronological texts. Furthermore we will develop our understanding of stories set in the past and persuasive writing. I will also be working on improving my grammar and comprehension skills.
In Maths I will be learning about place value, pencil and paper procedures and mental strategies for addition and subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also cover aspects of measure, shape and space, fractions, decimals and data handling. This will be done through the mastery approach to Maths.
We will be working hard to follow the Heckmondwike Way! We have eight positive phrases we will be trying our hardest to keep. If we work hard in class and impress Miss Evenden with our work, we can earn merits. When we reach 25 we will get a bronze award, 50 will get us a silver and for 100 it is a gold! We are very excited about having a hot chocolate Friday as we all want to sit with Mr Harris and Mr Mark to share our good work. Another exciting thing we are all working towards is being nominated for the Heckmondwike Hero award.
Things we need to remember!
- We will have swimming every Wednesday morning. Make sure you bring your swimming costume or trunks, a towel and a bag to keep your wet kit in each week. Earrings should be taken out before coming to school and all hair tied back.
- Water bottles will go home each night to be washed and re-filled – this really helps with our concentration and stops us becoming dehydrated.
- Homework, consisting of a piece of English and Maths, will be given each Friday to be returned the following Monday. Yellow slips will be given out if it is not done or not completed to a suitable standard.
- Spellings will be given out on a Friday to learn for our spelling test the following Friday. It’s quiz time! In Key Stage Two we will choose our own book from the library and then when it is completed, we take a short quiz in school. When we receive 100% on 3 consecutive occasions, we can then go onto a higher level. We aim to do 2 quizzes each week! We would be very grateful if you could read with your child each night and record any comments in the reading log. Books can be changed before school, at break time, during personalised learning time, dinner time and after school.
