Dear Parents, Carers, Pupils and Friends in our Community
I am delighted to introduce myself to you as the new Headteacher of our school, it is a real privilege to be given the opportunity to lead our school. Thank you to Mr Mark for his excellent interim leadership of the school, and I am very pleased that he will be working closely with me as Deputy Headteacher.
I have been a Headteacher and Executive Headteacher of a number of schools in Wakefield for 15 years, so I come to Heckmondwike as an experienced school leader. I have also supported schools in their improvement journey in roles working for a Local Authority and a Multi Academy Trust. I look forward to bringing all my experience, knowledge and enthusiasm into working alongside and with the existing team in our school.
This is a strange time to be starting at Heckmondwike Primary School. I was able to step into this role a month earlier than planned, in order to support the planning and coordination of the temporary closure of the school during lockdown, and the development of our remote support for families, our home learning provision as well as our summer care provision for families of key workers and other identified children. I have been completely impressed by the commitment, dedication and resourcefulness of the team in school. They say that you can only see the true character of someone when they are faced with adversity. Therefore, it is a pleasure for me to report to you that the staff in our school have a depth and resilience that you can all be proud of. We will continue to grow, develop and respond to this crisis in every way that we can, to ensure that we support you and our children. Please do keep checking our website which has a host of resources to support you, including learning support as well as social and emotional support. We are also using our Facebook and Twitter accounts to support you all, please do engage with us.
My vision for our school is for us to build on the many qualities which I have seen during my application and appointment process - a school which is a supportive and caring learning family at the heart of the community. I will be striving to enhance and develop this work further, ensuring excellent academic outcomes along with excellent nurture and care. We have fantastic facilities within the school and I look forward to working with all staff and parents to maximise this potential.
Working with the community will be a key part of my role, and I was pleased to join school governors and staff in meeting with representatives from our local Mosques to discuss how we will develop our curriculum further in the future. I was pleased by the spirit of communication and partnership which we developed in our first meeting, and we will continue to meet and work together regularly once we are able to do so.
Please keep safe during these difficult times, and I look forward to meeting you all once we are back.
Best wishes to you all
Mr Glyn Bishop
